INSTRUCTIONS
TASK 1 - PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT
During the first week, we formed our group of four, consisting of two animation students and two entertainment students. We quickly discussed whether we wanted to create an animation video or a game design. We unanimously decided to do game design and chose the horror genre. I then asked my teammates to find similar games and conduct research. To organize our ideas and research, I created a Miro board.
After that, each of us needed to come up with three different ideas. We then held a meeting before our feedback session. Each member selected one story, resulting in a total of four ideas to pitch to the lecturer.
As the group leader, I planned out our to-do list, setting deadlines for the tasks we needed to complete within a certain number of weeks.

After our feedback session, we selected my idea as the foundation and added some points from other members' ideas to complete the story. I then wrote the problem statement, defined the genre, and finalized other key details. We also completed the title and fulfilled all the requirements for Task 1.
I also gathered images to create our mood board, covering the overall art style, character design, environment, and props, with a separate mood board for each. We plan to refine and create a more detailed mood board after completing our first draft.
Next, I wrote down all the roles and allowed my team members to choose their preferred roles. Some roles were assigned to multiple people, as certain tasks required more effort and workload distribution.

I also wrote down the timeline for my team members to follow. If we couldn’t finish a task within the planned week, we would push it one week ahead. Since the brief didn’t specifically state the exact extent of each task, I planned ahead based on what we might be able to accomplish. However, I aimed to stay on schedule so that we would have ample time when progressing to Major Project 2.

After that, I shared a Canva template with my team, and we worked on the presentation slides together. Having team meetings was very effective, as it allowed us to collaborate and discuss our tasks efficiently.
Each member will need to draw two frames, which we will then combine to create our storyboard for the visuals.
Following my mood board, I sketched out a few designs for the main character (ghost). My plan is for the character to have a skinny physique, as they died from an illness. I exaggerated features like long limbs and an elongated body to enhance the eerie appearance.

We often have meetings to discuss our progress.

FEEDBACK
Week 3:
- You need to solidify the ground rules and the mood board. It is important to specify the rendering style, materials, and other details to ensure the entire team maintains consistency in the art style.
- Try using Unreal Engine and Unity to test elements like planes to see how the shaders look, as software like Blender and 3ds Max may produce different results in Unreal.
- Identify how to navigate the space, including its size, layout, and overall map dimensions.
Week 2:
- Identify the rules and regulations, then build the foundation (art direction, skeleton) first. This will make everything easier to follow.
- Determine which platform the game will be on (PC, mobile, etc.). This will help define the screen width and the level of detail required. For example, phone screens are small, so spending too much time on intricate details may be unnecessary, as the audience won’t be able to see them clearly.
- Break down what needs to be achieved step by step.
- The ideation is fine, you can combine each team member's ideas. However, you first need to establish the rules. Once the rules are set, create sketches to make the concepts easier to visualize.
REFLECTION
Throughout Task 1, since this was a group project, I was initially worried because different people have different ideas and opinions. I was afraid that we wouldn’t be able to work together effectively, but I realized I was worrying too much. My teammates were all very helpful, and we constantly held meetings to complete our tasks together. I was happy that we all agreed on an idea to complete the story for our horror game. Task 1 was mainly focused on setting up the theme and backstory, which served as the foundation for our project. Establishing a strong narrative was crucial, as it would guide our future decisions, including character design, environment creation, and gameplay mechanics. By having a solid foundation, we ensured that our game would have a clear direction, making the next stages of development, such as designing characters, refining the art style, and planning gameplay much smoother. This process also helped our team stay aligned, making collaboration more efficient and organized.
