Task 4: Character Boards Compilation

INSTURCTIONS

TASK 4 : CHARACTER BOARDS COMPILATION

The final task is to present a comprehensive visual narrative of Sunasoru’s character design, capturing her evolution from initial concept through to final execution. Each board will feature essential elements of Sunasoru’s lore, design rationale, and justification for creative decisions. The goal is to convincingly integrate Sunasoru into the Sumeru Desert universe, demonstrating how the design and abilities align with her role as a guardian against ancient curses.

After rendering, I placed the character into the Genshin Impact character card format using a template from AsuraidArt and added shadows behind to make it pop, aligning with the existing Genshin design.

We are also required to design a banner that aligns with our character's element. I got my geo template banner from Haru.

I also made a profile card using the first default turnaround. I colored the turnaround and cropped half of her body to fit it in.

I created the 3D character in ZBrush. You can check it out in the Anatomy & Character Sculpture.

I then compiled all the artwork, including the character render, profile card, and banner design. After that, I used Illustrator to create a background that ties everything together and makes the presentation look complete.

FEEDBACKS

Week 9: Number 4 is good; I like that she's like "Hi~." You can continue developing with Number 4.

REFLECTIONS

Experience
Throughout this semester, I've really enjoyed the process of building a character from scratch to a fully fleshed-out creation. Working on Sunasoru for Genshin Impact has been both challenging and super rewarding. Starting with just a vague idea of her abilities and backstory, I dove into making her into someone unique and memorable. I started by thinking about her connection to the mysterious whispers of the Sumeru Desert and how her powers would shape her personality. The idea that she could disappear into the sand and reappear as a protector during chaotic times added a lot of depth to her character. Designing her look was one of my favorite parts. I played around with asymmetrical clothing, overlaps, and making sure everything balanced out. Overall, this character design task has been an amazing experience. It’s helped me improve my skills in various aspects of design and storytelling. I'm really proud of Sunasoru and can't wait to see how others might connect with her in the Genshin Impact world.

Observation
Starting with Sunasoru's connection to the mysterious whispers of the Sumeru Desert, I realized how crucial a strong backstory is in shaping a character's personality and motivations. The idea that she could disappear into the sand and reappear as a protector during chaotic times added a lot of depth to her character.

Findings
I found that integrating visual design with a compelling backstory creates a more engaging and memorable character. Sunasoru's design and narrative complemented each other, making her more relatable and intriguing. I also found that ensuring that Sunasoru's design and story aligned with the existing Genshin Impact world was vital. It required careful consideration of the game's aesthetics and lore, which helped her fit seamlessly into the game.
