EXERCISES
Week 1
1. Video Editing Exercise
In Week 1, Mr. Martin introduced us to Premiere Pro and provided us with two sets of videos. Our task was to organize the video clips correctly.
Figure 2.1.1 Video Clips - Week 1 (29/8/2023) |
The first set of video clips comes from a Mints commercial and is conveniently numbered, making it a straightforward task to arrange them in the correct sequence. However, the second set of video clips is from a Doritos commercial, and they lack sequential numbering. Therefore, we had to view the clips to determine their proper order.

2. Three Favorite Stop Motion Video
Figure 2.2.1 Lego Pork Cutlet
This stop-motion animation showcases the process of cooking a pork cutlet. I admire how seamlessly each frame flows despite the use of Lego. Lego is challenging and inflexible, yet the way they captured the water drops and flames is incredibly smooth and impressive.
Figure 2.2.2 Shaun the Sheep
Shawn the Sheep is widely known for its stop-motion animation, which I admire for its multitude of actions, they use a technique called replacement animation. This involves swapping different heads or facial expressions for a character to create various emotions or reactions, giving the illusion of seamless movement and diverse expressions within stop-motion animation. If I have the time, I'd love to experiment with this technique. It's fascinating to note that in their studio, they have an entire city or farm set up for Shawn the Sheep.
Figure 2.2.3 Small Popcorn Factory
I enjoy an animation where they make popcorn; it's creative and sometimes nonsensical, especially with the half-body of the skeleton, the main character, and his helper, the tiny duck. I appreciate the humor in scenes where the popcorn rolls down the hill and ends up on the human's table.
Week 2
1. Shooting Practice, Shoot & Editing
During the second week, we were assigned a shooting exercise that we had learned about in this week's lectures. The exercise required us to capture various angles and shots. I used my phone to film the exercise and, although Mr. Martin did not ask us to compile it, I put together a short video for myself. I also added some zoom in transitions I learn from YouTube.

Week 2 - Video Trimming (Lalin)
For the second exercise, we had to trim a short video. The lecturer instructed us to cut it down to exactly 35 seconds.

I successfully trimmed the video to precisely 35 seconds, but when I uploaded it to YouTube, it added one second to the original video. I conducted an online search, and it appears to be a YouTube issue.

Week 3 - 3 Act Structure Exercise
For the Week 3 exercise, we were required to watch two videos, 'Guang' and 'Lalin,' in order to identify Plot Point 1, Plot Point 2, and the climax.

Week 7
This week, Mr. Martin taught us about frequency range and dynamic range and demonstrated how to use Adobe Audition to apply Parametric Equalizer and reverb in order to create various sound effects.

Week 9
This week, we conducted a test shooting in the design studio. Mr. Martin asked us to shoot twice—one using our camera and the other using a stop motion app. I found the stop motion app quite handy because it allows you to compare the previous pictures.

Week 10
This week, we are learning about VFX effects. Mr. Martin gave a brief tutorial on how to create a running flick hitting the wall.

REFLECTION
Week 9
From this test shooting, I learned that we shouldn't block the light source because even slight blockage can cause the shadows to appear differently.
Week 7
I learned how to use a new Adobe software (Audition) to create sound effects from raw audio, such as adding echo, muffling, and simulating a phone call. I found it very fun because I could use it to create funny effects like chipmunks or even aliens.
Week 2
This was my first time using Premiere Pro to trim videos and learn about adding transitions and effects. As I completed the editing exercise and played the video from start to finish, I felt a strong sense of accomplishment. This exercise sort of boosted my my confidence in video editing, encouraging me to explore more in Premiere Pro.
